Seniors Attend Career Guidance Seminar with Parents; Teachers Trained on First Aid and Disaster Risk Reduction
This year's Career Guidance Seminar was held eight months early at the IJSB Black Box. Considering the significant need for parental participation as well as ample time in decision-making, IJSB now requires parents to attend the seminar with their kids earlier in the school year.
Held on Saturday, 26 July, the seminar featured speakers from shortlisted fields of study requested by the students themselves. Areas covered were in Architecture, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture (Dairy), Medicine, Fine Arts, Theater, Film, Music, Public Accountancy, and Information Technology.
Teacher Lucel Gonzalez, RSW, was the coordinator while Teacher Jody Ducao hosted the affair.
On the same day, IJSB teachers attended a safety training seminar facilitated by the Valencia City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC), led by Capt. Alejandro Larosa, Sr. and Mr. Ruel Duran of the Department of Education-Valencia. The whole-day activity concentrated on fire and earthquake evacuation in the school environment and rescue and first aid training. This seminar-workshop intends to re-echo the training on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction concepts.
This follows the counterpart student training in the past weekends in the observation of the National Disaster Awareness Month.

Beijing Scholar Conducts Workshop at IJSB
For July's Alternative Classroom Experience (ACE), IJSB offered a Theater Workshop for Jesseans facilitated by Annie Luis at the IJSB Media Barn (The Black Box) on 19 July 2008.
An unprecedented number of students participated, which led to the division of the workshop into two groups--Pre School to Grade IV, and Grade V to HS IV. Such activities as fleshing out characters and devising random scenes were the focus of the workshop with plenty of group dynamics.
Ms. Luis is a graduate of BA Theater Arts at U.P. Diliman and is currently pursuing graduate studies in Literature and Chinese Theater at the famed Central Academy of Drama in Beijing as a Chinese government scholar. She is also the Bayanihan Dance Company's Soloist and travels extensively as a performer, singing at the World Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain the week before the IJSB workshop, and is now flying to France for another series of performances.
IJSB's Alternative Classroom Experience (ACE) Program is an ongoing project that taps mainstream talents to conduct seminars, workshops and classes to Jesseans every month. Subjects covered are as varied as the speakers' professions. August's ACE will be on Photography, and September's will be on Film Making.

School Website Goes On-line

The Official IJSB Website went online on 14 July 2008. It is the first non-free website of any school in the province of Bukidnon.
Updated on a weekly basis, www.infantjesusschoolofbukidnon.com provides school news, school profile information, club news, and curriculum and contact information.
The Clubs Section is run by students making up the various organizations at IJSB while the News Section in blog form is an online version of the Jessean Snippets--the school's student-run newspaper.
A Flash Animation Introduction is currently being developed by 4th year students as part of their computer class project under Teacher Alddy and will be added into the website as soon as they complete it.
With the newly acquired domain, teachers and students will individually have their own school-based email, for example, lalaine@infantjesusschoolofbukidnon.com.
You may now contact IJSB at admin@infantjesusschoolofbukidnon.com for inquiries and suggestions.
Jesseans Participate in Journalism Workshop
Students Romulo Larosa and Cyrus Malayang, together with Advisers Jody Ducao (English) and Lorrie Sabacajay (Filipino), attended a division-wide seminar on journalism. They represented IJSB's school paper, Jessean Snippets.
The seminar ran for three days on 17, 18 and 19 July.
Jesseans Snippets' first issue this year will have an on-line version at www.infantjesusschoolofbukidnon.com so that IJSB alumni from other cities and countries can keep themselves updated with Jessean campus news.

Mexico Donates Video Materials

IJSB students are now enjoying video materials sent in by the Mexican Embassy for the IJSB video library. Films on different Mexican states are highlighted, featuring the unique cultures, history, peoples, and sights of each. The videos will also be a significant resource for the IJSB seniors who have adjunct Spanish classes.
Mexico and the Philippines share parallels in their respective histories as both were under Spanish rule for some centuries.
The Jessean family would like to especially thank Mr. Cadena of the Embajada de Mexico.

Elementary Pupils Pay Animals a Visit
Pupils from the Elementary Department of IJSB visited Zubiri Deer Park and Rescue Center in San Miguel, Maramag Township on 4 July 2008. Scheduled to open in September, the haven for animals is still closed to the public. But due to the generosity of Bukidnon senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, the facility was made open to Jesseans.
The park shelters a good number of rare and exotic animals such as eagles, mousedeer, deer, crocodiles, lemurs, and ostriches, and helps educate students about animal and environmental conservation.
Please press PLAY buttons for video and slide presentations.
